Can readmission rates for pediatric patients be improved?

Children’s Health is a nationally ranked pediatric hospital system in North Texas dedicated to providing care for children across its several hospitals, specialty centers, and pediatric clinics.

Children’s Health partnered with Invene to overhaul their existing, 2-star rated asthma management app. The goal was to help children manage their asthma while reducing the 5,000 plus asthma-related visits to the emergency department Children’s Health that receives per year. The app was released at the beginning of the 2020 school year when caregivers where managing their child’s asthma in the COVID era.

This project had a complex web of stakeholders – Children’s Health executive staff, IT, clinical providers, and children with asthma along with their caregivers. All software had to adhere to HIPAA guidelines as it contained personal health information (PHI). The app had to be easy-to-use otherwise children would quickly abandon it. As the providers did not want children entering in their own medications, doctors needed an efficient way to input this data.
